Reflections
Reflections
Reflection photography refers to any photography, no matter what type of photography genre, that uses a reflective surface. It is an easy way to create gorgeous images in any setting.
Why use reflections?
Aesthetically reflection photography exploits the human need for symmetry making photographs familiar and visually pleasing. It also makes use of another compositional technique, Negative space. Reflections are also largely empty, ensuring images aren't cramped and feel complete. By using these compositional techniques, reflection photography creates truly outstanding photographs all the time!
Where do you find reflections?
The most basic source of reflection is a mirror. However, I don't recommend it. Since mirrors are accurate reflectors, they will rarely add anything to your image. Instead, use unusual reflective surfaces like windows to make more unique images.
Personally, my favourite reflective source is water. Puddles, droplets and water bodies, all water is perfect for reflection photography. It creates irregular reflections making your shot look more distinctive than a mirror would. Also, water is mobile. The easiest way to make a reflection is to spill a little water in front of your subject, and voila, you have a reflection.
Photography is about creativity. Good photographers make different images from banal subjects. Through unique perspectives and creative angles, reflections will help you create unforgettable images from nothing!
